Hi, I’m Nadine — welcome to From Home to Home.

A few years ago, I left Zimbabwe and came to the United States for graduate school. I thought I was simply moving away from home to earn my degree. Instead, life took a few unexpected detours.

Somewhere between classes, assignments, and figuring out life in a new country, I found love, got married, became pregnant, had a baby, navigated motherhood while finishing graduate school, and eventually graduated.

This blog is a place for me to share all of it — life away from home, pregnancy and postpartum, motherhood, raising a baby, marriage, school, and all the ordinary (and occasionally chaotic 😂) moments in between.

I also want to explore something that has become especially interesting to me since becoming a mom: the differences between raising children in Zimbabwe and raising them in the United States. From food and sleep to family involvement, traditions, advice, expectations, and the million little things people tell you about raising a baby, there are moments when the two worlds feel completely different — and others when they really aren’t.

I’m not here because I have everything figured out. Quite the opposite. I want this to be an honest little corner of the internet where I can share what I’ve learned, what I’m still learning, and the experiences that have shaped this new chapter of my life.

I left one home thinking I was chasing a degree. Somehow, along the way, I built another.
